Our Constitution 

1. Name

 The association shall be called The Association of Catholic Chaplains in Education.

2. Aims and Objectives

    The aim of the Association is to further the development of the spiritual and     

    Pastoral care exercised in schools and colleges by

 

  • supporting the spiritual and pastoral welfare and professional development of chaplains in schools and colleges;
  • promoting the establishment and development of chaplaincies in all schools and colleges;
  • providing channels of communication between chaplains and the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales and its Departments, Committees and Agencies and any other bodies or persons on all matters concerning the work of chaplains.

(In this Constitution, chaplain means any Catholic chaplain whether canonical chaplain or otherwise. College means Sixth Form College.) 

3. Membership

    The following shall be members of the Association :     

  • the Episcopal Advisor and the Director of the Catholic Education Service;
  • ordinary members, who shall be:
  • chaplains serving in schools and colleges and diocesan co-ordinators and who have paid the annual membership subscription set by the Executive Committee
  • persons admitted at the discretion of the Executive Committee, who wish to support the work of the Association and who are willing to pay the annual membership subscription set by the Executive Committee.
  • Honorary members, who shall be those elected at a General Meeting or appointed by the Executive Committee. 

4. Executive Committee

     The following shall be members of the Executive Committee :

  • the elected Officers of the Association 

     The Executive Committee shall :

  • administer and manage the Association in accordance with this Constitution
  • have the power to co-opt a maximum of two members for a specified period not exceeding two years.

5. Officers

The association has the following officers: 

  • The National Co-ordinator, who shall be elected by the Annual General Meeting and who shall lead the Association in accordance with the policy of the Executive Committee
  • Four other members shall be elected by the Annual General Meeting to assist the National Co-ordinator in leading the Association 

(The Officers, including the National Co-ordinator, will be elected for a maximum of two terms of three years at an Annual General Meeting. The elected member who has been in office for the longest period of time shall retire at the Annual General Meeting. Retiring elected members are eligible for re-election after a period of Three years.) 

6. Episcopal Advisor

    A member of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales shall be Episcopal   

    Advisor to the Association 

7. General Meetings

     The Annual General meeting shall be held once a year, normally during the

     Annual Conference. The Annual General Meeting shall

  • elect the Officers of the Association under (5).
  • accept the annual accounts prepared under (5).
  • discuss any matter concerning the Association.

(Notice of items for discussion at the Annual General Meeting should be sent to the Conference Secretary no less than 21 days before the meeting. Other items may be added at the discretion of the Executive Committee.) 

     Only ordinary members who have paid the Annual subscription and Ex officio   

     Members are entitled to vote at any Annual General Meeting 

     A Special General Meeting may be called at any time by the Executive Committee.

8.  Affiliation to the Catholic Education Service

     The Association shall be affiliated to the Catholic Education Service.

9. Amendment

     This Constitution may be amended at a General Meeting of the Association

     provided that

  • a) a notice of the General Meeting is sent to members at least 21 days in advance of the meeting specifying the proposed amendment(s).
  • b) a resolution is passed at that meeting by not less than two-thirds of the members present and voting.
  • c) The amendment shall not be effective if it would have the effect of making the Association cease to be within the charitable objectives of the body to which the Association is affiliated.

10. Dissolution

      The Association may be dissolved in the same way as an amendment to the

     Constitution in 9 above. In the event of dissolution all assets remaining after the

     satisfaction of any proper debts and liabilities shall pass to the Catholic Education

     Service for its general objects.
